Why Solidarity is Important Now More Than Ever
Let’s be honest—being a federal employee these days can feel like starring in a reality show where the theme is “How Much More Can We Take?” Between being unfairly maligned, micromanaged, and blamed for problems we didn’t create, it’s easy to feel unappreciated.
But you know what’s really unappreciated? Ice cream. And chicken wings. And a good deal on some quality merch.
That’s why AFGE Local 17 is hosting an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, March 12, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the Canteen!
We’re bringing the sweet treats (free, of course), but that’s not all—the Canteen will also be serving up their famous chicken wings, because nothing says solidarity like bonding over the universal language of good food.
And if you’re looking for something beyond great eats, vendor Ann Lewis will be on-site selling a variety of products, including:
✔ Women’s products
✔ Sports-themed gear (keychains, mugs, coasters, t-shirts, and more!)
✔ Bath & body products
✔ Sorority gifts
✔ Handbags
✔ And much more! (Because nothing pairs better with ice cream than impulse shopping, right?)
This event is about employee appreciation—something we don’t hear nearly enough from senior leadership. It’s a chance to step away from the daily grind, connect with coworkers, and remind each other that we are the ones keeping the VA running, no matter what headlines or politicians say.
So come for the ice cream, grab some wings, browse some great products, and most importantly—stand in solidarity. Because the best way to deal with a bitter reality? A little something sweet (and maybe a spicy wing or two).
🍦🍗💪 See you on March 12!
