Fannie Lou Hamer: From Sharecropper to Civil Rights Leader
Fannie Lou Hamer, a sharecropper turned civil rights leader, shook the nation with her fearless testimony before the 1964 Democratic National Convention. She exposed the brutal realities of racial injustice and voter suppression, declaring, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.“ Her words echoed then, and they echo now, as federal employees face a different but equally insidious battle – one against billionaire elites who see government workers as disposable, as obstacles to their unchecked power.
I’m Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired
Fannie Lou Hamer – Testimony – 1964
Today, billionaires like Elon Musk – who wasn’t even born here – sit in their ivory towers, pushing for policies that would gut the federal workforce, strip away job protections, and destabilize the livelihoods of those who serve the American people. They call it “efficiency” or “draining the swamp.” In reality, it’s an all-out attack on the very backbone of public service –on the people who process Social Security claims, care for Veterans, ensure workplace safety, make air travel safe, inspect the food we consume, the water that we drink, and the air that we breathe, and protect civil rights.
Many federal employees are living in fear, constantly wondering if their jobs will be the next casualty of political warfare. The uncertainty breeds financial insecurity, despair, and stress, all while these same billionaires hoard obscene wealth. But let’s remember who we are. We are public servants, protectors of democracy, and warriors for the common good. The federal workforce is not a nameless, faceless bureaucracy—it is us, and we have power when we stand together.
Fannie Lou Hamer didn’t back down, and neither should we. She fought against forces that sought to silence her, and in doing so, she inspired generations to rise up against injustice. We must tap into that same fighting spirit. No billionaire, no political crony, no corporate overlord should dictate the fate of those who dedicate their lives to serving the American people.

Elon Musk and his billionaire allies have no right to decide who gets to have economic security and who doesn’t. They have never walked in our shoes, yet they seek to control our destiny. And to that, we say: Enough.

We will not be pawns in their game. We will not cower in fear. We will organize, we will fight, and we will ensure that the rights and dignity of federal workers are protected. Fannie Lou Hamer’s voice was never silenced, and neither will ours.
The question is not whether we can win this fight – the question is whether we have the courage to stand up and take what is rightfully ours. And the answer is clear: We do.
I am totally frustrated with the politicians constantly interfering in our jobs, life and finances. Ever since Trump took his oath without putting his hand on the Bible I knew this country is at a bad downfall. He’s does not care about the people in this country. Everything he’s doing to the Federal Work Force is just wrong. We know theirs always room for changes, but this is too much. There is no excuse for people loosing their jobs to this level and now he has Elon Musk a Foreigner deciding our faith, I have a major problem with that.
