AFGE, along with the Alliance for Retired Americans and SEIU, has filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department for unlawfully granting Elon Musk’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) access to millions of Americans’ personal and financial data.

The lawsuit alleges that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent not only failed to protect this sensitive information but also retaliated against officials who tried to safeguard it. Advocacy groups warn that this unprecedented privacy violation puts seniors and federal employees at risk of fraud and exploitation.

AFGE National President Everett Kelley condemned the move, stating, “It is disgraceful that the Trump administration has allowed unelected billionaires and their lackeys unfettered access to the personal and financial information of Americans. Together, we can stop this violation of American citizens’ privacy.”

  1. Thank you so much! This so unbelievable and outrageous. They are continuing to do things so out of bounds- that as it stuns people and paralyzes them- they know that judicial review is after the fact and after they done the damage, ie., mission complete. Can we afford to continue to only respond and wait until they continue to break the law to act? Are there any updates on this filing against Treasury Dept/DOGE?
