In the heart of adversity, the true spirit of our community is revealed. Today, we call upon that spirit to rally around one of our own, Tyeas Tillman, an AFGE Local 17 member who has suffered an unimaginable loss. On January 16th, Tyeas’ life was upended when an electrical fire tore through her Upper Marlboro home, leaving her without shelter, belongings, or even the simplest necessities of life.

Tyeas’ harrowing experience began on what seemed like a normal morning. While working from home, an unusual glow caught her attention, leading her to a shocking discovery: her kitchen was ablaze. Despite her efforts to douse the flames, the fire quickly overcame her home. Her quick thinking to alert the authorities and neighbors helped prevent any loss of life, showcasing her bravery and presence of mind. However, the fire did not leave much else behind.
This tragic incident has left Tyeas Tillman with the monumental task of rebuilding her life. As a union, we have always stood for solidarity, support, and assistance to our members in their times of need. It’s now time for us to step up and extend our help to Tyeas.
We are initiating a GoFundMe campaign to gather resources for Tyeas. The funds raised will provide her with the essentials—clothing, temporary housing, and the many other expenses that will arise as she rebuilds her life from the ashes of this catastrophe.

Together, we can help Tyeas rebuild.
I donated, but did notice you can leave a message for Tyeas. I would like her to know that I live not to far from her, I am in Owings, Md. I will share her goFundme to my neighborhood feeds. Please let us know if she needs clothing (size), or has kids in need of clothing, or any other essentials other than money that she needs.
Sincerely,
Robbin Willett
