Labor Leadership: Celebrating Dr. Everett B. Kelley’s Achievements

Local 17 of the American Federation of Government Employees proudly honors our esteemed National President, Dr. Everett B. Kelley, for his unprecedented accomplishments in the realms of labor leadership and the promotion of world peace. Dr. Kelley’s recent reception of the World Peace Prize for Labor Leadership marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first male recipient to be awarded all three distinguished honors from the World Peace Prize Awarding Council.

Dr. Kelley’s dedication to the labor movement and his profound impact on global peace initiatives are reflective of his deep-rooted values and unwavering commitment to justice and solidarity. His journey with AFGE began in 1981, and his leadership has been pivotal in advocating for government employees and advancing the cause of labor rights on a national scale.

Labor Leadership and Global Peace Initiatives

In 2019, Dr. Kelley was first recognized by the World Peace Prize Awarding Council with the Roving Ambassador for Peace Prize, followed by the Richard Trumka World Peace Prize for Solidarity in 2023. Each of these awards acknowledges his efforts to link the pursuit of labor rights with the essential principles of peace and solidarity across communities and nations.

During the award ceremonies, Dr. Kelley has consistently expressed gratitude towards his faith, his family, and his colleagues in the union. His speeches resonate with a message of hope and collective responsibility—emphasizing that the fight for social justice is intertwined with the quest for peace. He draws inspiration from the biblical wisdom of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” which reflects his faith-driven approach to labor leadership and service.

The Role of Leadership in Advancing Labor Rights

Dr. Kelley’s extensive background as a community leader and Baptist minister enriches his perspective on social advocacy, making him a unique and powerful voice in the labor movement. His achievements are not only a testament to his individual dedication but also to the collaborative spirit of all AFGE members.

As Local 17, we stand immensely proud of Dr. Kelley’s accomplishments. His leadership inspires us to continue our advocacy with renewed vigor and a strengthened commitment to the principles of fairness, dignity, and peace. Under his guidance, we are reminded of the powerful impact that dedicated labor leadership can have on our community and the world.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kelley and look forward to his continued labor leadership and vision, which light the way for the enduring progress of labor rights and world peace.
